Rev'd Nigel Rodgers

Rev Nigel Rodgers, minister in this circuit since September 2022, with specific responsibility for St David’s Methodist Church Craig y Don and St John’s Methodist Church Llandudno.

Prior to coming to Llandudno and Craig y Don I have served the Methodist church on the Isle of Wight, in Inverness, Teddington in London and North Kirklees & Morley in West Yorkshire. So, I have travelled almost as far as is possible in British Methodism and can now claim the full set of England Scotland and now Wales.

I grew up in Rotherham, which was still in the West Riding of Yorkshire when I was born but I mainly remember the days of the Socialist Democratic Republic of South Yorkshire. I grew up with 3 younger sisters and as many did in those days, we were sent to Sunday School although our parents were not regularly in church. As we grew older we realised we could say ‘no’ and so I opted out. In my teens and twenties, I would have described myself as an atheist until I was about 30. If you want to know the details of how and what happened you will need to ask if we meet. Needless to say becoming a Methodist has been a transformation – we are not all born wearing a dog collar!

Before I became a minister I was a Building Services Engineer involved in the heating and ventilation of mainly commercial projects and more often deigning or project managing large projects. I didn’t work on the tools so don’t trust me with your plumbing. The language in my work environment then was less Holy than it is thought to be now, but the reality of life means we are often in the messiness of earthly problems. So, it pays to have a down to earth approach to life.

I was married to Kim for 30 years before losing her to cancer. In the last few years together we grew to a deeper degree of intimacy and faith as we relied on each other and the Lord for care and strength.

Christianity is, at its core, about resurrection hope and love. I have been blessed with another wonderful marriage. Both Lucy and I are in the early part of our marriage as we have a fresh start together in a new place and situation. We both feel really blessed to be where God has called us to be, in the midst of God’s people and by the shore, as together we make footprints in the sand. We are also really excited about what is bubbling up around us and eager to see how the Lord will use us and the churches – the Body of Christ – to bring the Good News of the kingdom of joy, hope and peace for everyone.

Come and join in the adventure of following in the footprints of Jesus at St John’s Llandudno and St David’s Craig y Don.
