"An appreciation of Architecture"

The course will be held weekly at

St John's Methodist Church, Mostyn Street, Llandudno for 10 weeks, starting on Tuesday 26 September 2023 from 2.00 to 4.00p.m. Ken is a retired lecturer who taught in the Building department at Stockport College for 20 years.

The course fee is £40, all fees will be donated to St John's Methodist Church, Llandudno.

Syllabus

Week 1 (26 Sept) – Enrolment, the materials of building, presentation with slides showing uses of brick, concrete, metal, slate, stone & wood.
Week 2 (3 Oct) – Identifying parts of buildings, Egyptian & Greek architecture.
Week 3 (10 Oct) – Roman, Saxon and Norman architecture.
Week 4 (17 Oct) – Gothic architecture.
Week 5 (24 Oct) – Timber frame buildings (Tudor and Elizabethan) Renaissance and classical architecture.
Week 6 (31 Oct) – Georgian, Regency and Victorian architecture.
Week 7 (7 Nov) – Victorian architecture continued: Model Villages, New Lanark, Saltaire, Bournville and with particular reference to Port Sunlight.
Week 8 (14 Nov) – Modern architecture, Railway architecture.
Week 9 (21 Nov) – Architecture of British parish churches.
Week 10 (28 Nov) – Describing a facade, Architectural oddities.
